Position Title Part-Time Stage Supervisor and Deck Hand
Department JACOBS SCHOOL OF MUSIC (BL-MUS-IUBLA)
Implements daily operations of stage crew for all Jacobs School of Music and IU Opera and Ballet Theater events in the Musical Arts Center. Assembles, disassembles, hangs, and maintains scenery, storage, and stage areas. Installs and strikes orchestra shell. Supervises student-run crew and runs shows as needed. Maintains the stage and storage spaces, ensuring a safe, clean work environment. Supervises all student stage crew on daily operations of scenery department and maintains an inventory of stage equipment, tools, hardware, and supplies under the direction of the full-time Technical Director.
REQUIRED: High School Diploma or GED and three years of experience in Stage Crew or related stage work.
Knowledge of basic scenery construction and conventions. Ability to work nights, weekends, and irregular hours to meet performance schedules.
Familiar with theatrical fly systems, stage equipment, rigging, scenery, lifts, and power tools. Knowledge of related stage equipment and directions.
Previous supervisor or leadership roles.
Working Conditions / Physical Demands
The position can be physically demanding. Lifting up to 80 pounds, bending, sitting, kneeling, crouching, climbing and standing for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to work at heights.
